Plus Size Clothing- 6 Ways to Ruin an Outfit

Written By Yolanda Early

Plus size women want plus size clothing that looks good. So, we go to great lengths to find clothes that work for our full figures. Once you’ve found those clothes, how you put them together makes all the difference. It’s the details that make or break an outfit and sometimes we can overlook the most pertinent ones. Here are six common ways to ruin an outfit.

Lack of confidence- You can always tell when someone doesn’t feel comfortable in their clothes. She’s the woman in the corner tugging at her skirt or pulling down her sweater. Trendsetters wear what they like making everyone else take notice. For plus size women, it’s not necessary to be a trendsetter, but it is really important to feel confident in your clothes. You look your best when you feel your best.

Accessory overload- Too many accessories can make your outfit look busy or cluttered. When in doubt, remove a puff piece or two to be safe. Conversely, the lack of adornment can get boring. Always aim for a nice balance.

Shabby or ill-chosen outerwear- Cold weather forces us to bundle up to stay warm, but it doesn’t force us to neglect how we look. If you cover a great outfit with an unflattering coat, then that’s the first impression that people receive. Make sure that your plus size outerwear doesn’t ruin your outfit.

Improper fit- Finding the right plus size clothing can be a challenge, but the benefits are well worth the effort. Never settle for clothes that are too tight or oversized. Well fitting pieces showcase your body in its best light.

Mismatched footwear- Have you ever seen a woman dressed in light airy sundress and a clunky pair of shoes? Not good. Shoes are like the punctuation at the end of a sentence. They set the tone for the rest of the outfit.

The wrong foundation garments- What you wear under your clothes is just as important as the clothes you wear. There’s nothing less attractive than a visible panty line, a thong hanging out of a pair of jeans, or a bra that just isn’t doing its job. Choose underwear and shapewear that fits properly and complements the outfit that you are wearing.
